We brought together coastal professionals for an New Zealand Coastal Society regional event at the Beca office in Auckland, where we had excellent talks on tsunami hazard by Patricio Catalan and future coastal solutions by Patricio Winckler. Following this, we had a hands-on workshop in Raglan combining field observations with technical discussions about data science.
The Oceanum team of numerical modelling experts and Datamesh architects had the opportunity to exchange ideas with these leading Chilean researchers working on coastal risk and climate adaptation.
A highlight was explaining how Datamesh is being used in practice, including examples like Calypso Science, where data integration enables users to build their own applications on top of large-scale ocean datasets.
It’s always great to connect with regions facing similar challenges to NZ, and explore how data and modelling can support better coastal decision-making.
