We’re a team of scientists and engineers making environmental intelligence more accessible.

With extensive hands-on experience in oceanography, meteorology, and applied environmental science, our team excels at transforming complex data into practical, impactful tools. Our PhD-qualified experts have led large-scale projects and developed models for national weather agencies, giving us unique insights into the challenges and transformative potential of environmental data.

This expertise inspired us to create Datamesh – our innovative platform that brings diverse datasets together in one intuitive system. Guided by our mission to revolutionise the discovery, management, and utilisation of environmental data, we work closely with an extensive network to deliver the best solutions. By unlocking the unrealised potential of environmental data, we empower you with insights that drive informed decisions and groundbreaking discoveries.

Dr Peter McComb

Managing Director and Physical Oceanographer

Dr Tom Durrant

Director and Physical Oceanographer

Dr Rafael Guedes

Director and Physical Oceanographer

Dr David Johnson

Director and Physical Oceanographer

Dr. Peter has 30 years experience in science leadership and ocean enterprise, building an extensive portfolio of applied science outcomes. He has designed and led numerous oceanographic measurement campaigns, metocean design projects, and modelling studies. He also provides strategic science advisory and governance roles to various agencies.
Dr. Tom is an oceanographer with over 20 years experience in applied research and operational forecasting. He has led the development of national wave forecasting systems for both the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and the Meteorological Service of New Zealand. Tom has extensive experience combining modern technological approaches with state-of-the-art science to produce agile and flexible modelling systems.
Dr. Rafael brings 20+ years of expertise in nearshore wave modelling and coastal processes. At the Meteorological Service of New Zealand, he managed oceanographic hindcasting databases and contributed to the development of coastal wave forecasting systems. He has produced numerous multi-decadal wave hindcasts and continues to develop open-source tools that bridge science and technology.
Dr. David has gradually evolved from an oceanographer into a data systems architect and engineer. With Oceanum.io, he is applying over 20 years experience in applied numerical modelling, data analysis and visualisation to creating better tools and systems to facilitate environmental research, workflows and operations.
Jana is a coastal engineer and PhD candidate at the University of Auckland, with a background in civil engineering and a strong interest in coastal resilience. Her work combines numerical modelling with laboratory experiments to better understand coastal processes and support the development of practical solutions. As Oceanum’s ambassador, she helps connect research with real-world applications by guiding users through the platform and promoting the use of environmental data tools across science and industry.
