Oceanum has released a 45-year (1979-present) Baltic Sea wave hindcast dataset, accessible on OCEANUM.IO. This extensive model boasts a 5 km resolution and hourly data, driven by spectral boundaries from Oceanum’s Global Wave Mode, winds from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute’s NORA3 and sea ice concentrations from ECMWF ERA5. Bathymetry integrates GEBCO 2024 and nautical charts.
Accuracy is confirmed by validation against satellite altimeter and buoy data – explore yourself using our wave validation app. Hourly, two-dimensional wave spectra are available at over 1600 locations across the Baltic Sea.
