We start the year with new wave monitoring data now available from a recently deployed wave buoy at 𝘈𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘤𝘬 in the Hauraki Gulf, NZ (https://lnkd.in/e9urrBC4). The buoy is already delivering valuable observations of local wave conditions, and is a result of a productive collaboration between Oceanum, NZDF | Defence Science & Technology (DST), University of Auckland, Auckland Council, and Calypso Science. Real-time monitoring is essential for activities such as coastal hazard management, navigation and port operations, infrastructure protection, emergency response, and model validation. Having up-to-date conditions supports faster and better-informed decision-making when conditions change rapidly. On behalf of Auckland Council, Oceanum runs a very high resolution ocean modeling system for the entire Gulf – predicting waves, currents and water levels for improved public safety.
