New data release: Taiwan Strait metocean hindcast

We have a new high-resolution metocean hindcast available for the Taiwan Strait – and it’s one of the most detailed datasets  we’ve produced for this region. The dataset covers 33 years of wave climate (1993–2025), 10 years of 3D hydrodynamics (2015-2024), and 25 years of winds, waves and currents during tropical cyclone events (2001–2025).

What’s included:

  • Wave spectra and parameters for the ambient and typhoon-forced conditions.
  • Winds at 10 m elevation as the 10-minute mean.
  • 3D hydrodynamics plus tidal elevations, storm surge residuals and water temperature profiles.

All data are suitable for deriving the cyclonic and non-cyclonic extremes. The models used include nested SWAN for ambient and cyclonic waves, SCHISM for 3D baroclinic hydrodynamics, and TCRM winds with ERA5 blending.

The dataset has been extensively validated, so if you’re working on metocean design criteria, operational parameters or engineering projects in the Taiwan Strait, we’d love to talk.
