We are pleased to release our updated Bass Strait Wave Hindcast dataset, a detailed account of ocean wave parameters in Southeast Australia, focusing on the Bass Strait region. This hourly dataset, powered by the SWAN 41.31 model, covers a 33-year period from January 1993 to February 2025.
- Spatial resolution of 5 km with 1 km nests for the Eastern Bass Strait and Portland areas.
- Forced by ERA5 winds, GLORYS currents, and Oceanum 2D global spectra, with tidal currents incorporated from the Oceanum 400 m Global Tides Dataset.
- Integrated wave parameters (37) at native model resolution and hourly 2D wave spectra at 1921 sites.
This is an excellent resource for the wind energy sector, marine operations, and coastal engineering. Users can validate the wave data online with our validation app. Comparisons against satellite altimeters and wave buoys from the Victorian Coastal Monitoring Program are also provided in this document.
