The Antarctic Science Platform – Antarctica New Zealand has released the AntAir ICE dataset (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41597-023-02720-z) through the Oceanum Datamesh — a high-resolution Antarctic air temperature dataset derived from MODIS land and ice surface temperature.
AntAir ICE provides daily, 1 km gridded near-surface air temperature across the entire Antarctic continent, ice shelves, and seasonal sea-ice — enabling new insight into local climate variability, extremes, and environmental change.
What’s inside
- Spatial coverage: Antarctica-wide
- Temporal coverage: 2003–2021
- Resolution: 1 km daily
- Parameter: Near-surface air temperature
What you can do with it
- Analyse Antarctic-wide temperature trends and extremes at high spatial resolution
• Investigate mesoscale climate processes shaped by complex topography
• Support ecological, glaciological, and hydrological research where 1 km detail matters
• Build case studies for event-based and long-term analyses using nearly 20 years of daily temperature data
