12.7 billion – that’s how many directional wave spectra are available in OCEANUM.IO.
Oceanographers know there’s a lot more to ocean waves than the bulk parameters like significant height and peak period. Wave spectra reveal the complex “fingerprint” of the ocean; how energy is distributed across frequency and direction. This detailed data is crucial for accurate forecasting, coastal impact analysis, ship motion and optimising offshore activities.
It’s also what coastal wave modelers really need for their nearshore wave model boundary conditions. Rather than reconstruct a theoretical spectrum from bulk parameters (and thereby induce error) it is always better to use the full 2D spectra.
At Oceanum, we provide exceptionally high-density spectral output points in our global and regional wave forecast and 45-year hindcast data sources (more than 70,000 sites). Accessing this data is seamless with Datamesh, allowing you to extract decades of spectra in less than a minute. Paired with our open-source Wavespectra library (https://lnkd.in/eHZQZhC6), gaining deep insights is now faster than ever. A demonstration notebook can be found here https://lnkd.in/g5E4k2Xg.
Dive deeper into ocean data with OCEANUM.IO. Don’t settle for just wave height; use the rich information from our billions of quality directional wave spectra.
